Tampa Bay Great Books Council Winter Evebt
"JUSTICE: WHAT IS IT AND WHERE CAN WE FIND IT?"
Welcome to an intellectually stimulating, mind-expanding weekend at the
Hilton Longboat Key Beachfront Resort Hotel for our annual
"Great Books Conference Weekend," sponsored by the Tampa Bay Great Books Council.
The exciting program will feature the following three reading selections:
THE FIXER, by Bernard Malamud
MEASURE FOR MEASURE, by William Shakespeare
BILLY BUDD, by Herman Melville
Once again, we will explore a topic that has had a profound influence on how we view
the world and our place in it. The reading selections above reflect three distinct
literary genres (novel, play, and short story) and content, yet at this time of
disturbing global conflicts and debate on what is "right" and "just" in human conduct,
our topic could not be more relevant.
Registration for this weekend event is $219 per participant. This includes a set of three books.
To facilitate the discussion process, all participants are required to use the text editions
provided by the conference. All discussions will be led by moderators trained in the
Great Books method of "shared inquiry."
Your tuition also includes a Friday evening welcoming dinner, as well as full breakfasts on
Saturday and Sunday morning. Also included in the tuition will be a Saturday gourmet lunch
overlooking the white sandy beaches on the Gulf of Mexico, and a wine-and-cheese party
after the second discussion on Saturday afternoon. On Saturday evening you will have the
option (at your own expense) of joining our Great Books Council members at one of three
excellent restaurants for the evening's meal. Our schedule will allow ample time for
socializing, sunning on the beach with old and new friends, or just exploring this island
paradise. Close by our conference hotel center is St. Armand's Circle, one of the premier,
upscale shopping venues in the Southeast.
Your hotel for the weekend is the intimate Hilton Longboat Key Beachfront Resort, located
