New England Great Books Council's Mystic Spring Institute, March 30-April 1, 2012
Coming of Age: Choices
Please join us for:
- Daniel Deronda by George Eliot
- The Brief, Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz
- The Education of Henry Adams by Henry Adams
In each of these books, the main character makes life choices, then must live with the consequences. In Daniel Deronda, Daniel encounters a new and strange fork in the road and must make a life changing choice. Henry Adams, in The Education of Henry Adams, reflects, later in life, on how the changing world has influenced him to take a different road from other members of his dynastic family. Oscar and his Dominican/American family, in The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, walk a terrifying and dangerous path with many twists and turns.
The Mystic Hilton is located midway between New York & Boston; trains stop in Mystic & New London. Nearby are the Mystic Marinelife Aquarium, shops at Old Mistick Village, the Mystic Seaport Museum and Mashantucket Pequot Museum. The hotel features a heated swimming pool and fitness room.
